About the Junior Assistant Program
The Junior Assistant Program, directed by Marcy Simpson, is a mentorship opportunity for students who demonstrate a strong drive to contribute within the dance classroom. This structured framework helps dancers understand their roles and responsibilities through four core focus areas:
- Enthusiasm & Professionalism
- Responsibility & Technique
- Communication
- Positive Role Modeling
Our goal is to provide a meaningful opportunity for personal and professional growth. The season begins with a mandatory meeting in September to establish expectations. Throughout the year, each assistant will receive individual evaluations during Session I and Session II, as well as a mandatory meeting prior to the recital to define duties for the performance weekend.
Selection Process
Junior Assistants are selected in August and commit to the full season from September through June. Students are chosen based on the following criteria:
- A positive attitude towards staff and peers
- Strong communication skills and comfort speaking in front of groups
- Proficiency in the dance genre they wish to assist
- A strong work ethic and consistent attendance
- General availability
